German Shorthaired Pointers
Though GSP’s were bred back in the day primarily for hunting reasons, today they are known to be a loving family companion to all that live among them.
German shorthaired pointers love being around people and other dogs of all shapes and sizes, which is why playing outside is one of their favorite hobbies. They’ve been known to be great around kids and they’re super psyched to help children along.
Common Ailments a GSP May Face
German shorthaired pointers are just like any other dog in the world in that they all have a lifespan; for GSP’s, their lifespan is approximately 12 to 14 years.
Despite their long lifespan, they still are apt to develop the following conditions:
- Central diabetes insipidus
- Hyperthyroidism
- Cleft palate
- Heart disease
- Entropion
- Blood clotting
- Nasal cavity tumors
- Epilepsy
- Arthritis
- Lymphedema
Though this may not be every disease/ailment these awesome pups can get, it is a list of the most common. Less common conditions include dysplasia of the hip and elbow, bloat, and progressive retinal atrophy.
CBD Oil Treatment
Though CBD oil is known to help all instances of pain and inflammation in any breed of dog, it is also used to help certain health conditions.
Namely, I’m going to tell you the story of one specific German shorthaired pointer and her problem with arthritis. Then I’ll give you the insiders knowledge on how CBD oil helped her.
Rye, an 11-year-old GSP, attended her annual check-up at the vet’s office when the vet stated she had arthritis.
Rye had plenty of eventful years where she was jumping, bolting, lunging, and hunting, but now her knees were starting to give in a little.
The vet had stated that her knees felt crunchy when lightly pressing on them and that if she didn’t take it easy, she may not be able to walk any further. The pain Rye must have been feeling needed to be treated, and that’s where the CBD oil came into play.
Before you start to freak out, you should know that CBD oil is completely safe for your GSP and it will not get him/her high at all. In fact, it works as a pain reducer and gets rid of inflammation faster than some prescription drugs, yet without the side effects.
Learn more about Rye’s story here and see if you’d like to start using CBD oil for your German shorthaired pointers arthritis issues, or any other issues involving pain/inflammation. Check in with your vet first if you have any questions. CBD Dosage Chart For German Shorthaired Pointer
