Can I Give My Dog Rick Simpson Oil

Can I Give My Dog Rick Simpson Oil
Many dog parents have heard of Rick Simpson oil, especially if their beloved pups have cancer. Word spreads fast, and many pet owners talk about cancer treating options like this one.

Here, we’re going to cover what Rick Simpson oil is; then, we’ll get into details on whether it’s safe and efficient for you to use to help combat cancer symptoms your dog is facing.

Let’s get started!

What is Rick Simpson Oil?

Rick Simpson is an engineer from Canada that chose to create a treatment method out of cannabis concentrate; according to records, he was aiming to treat his skin cancer symptoms.

In 2003, the doctors told Simpson that he had basal cell carcinoma, to which he then formed the cannabis concentrate to treat the three lumps on his arm. Every day, he would apply the extract to his arms where the lumps were sitting, and then cover them with a bandage. After approximately four days, the cancer was no longer present.

Since then, Simpson lives his life by creating concentrates to help people with health-related problems; it’s named Rick Simpson oil, and it involves soaking THC-rich cannabis buds in alcohol, then purging away the solvent. This, in turn, creates a thick oil that treats health ailments.

Is the Oil Safe for My Dog?

Rick Simpson oil is high in THC, meaning that it is not necessarily safe to give to your dog. Dogs can be very sensitive to the element known as THC, though they are not as sensitive to the element known as CBD. That’s why many CBD companies ensure and register themselves as all-natural companies that allow minimal THC exposure to their products. If you expose your dog to too much THC, he or she may go through what is known as “cannabis poisoning,” and many veterinarians warn that this is not fun to treat.

Rick Simpson oil is not life-threatening to your dog, but it may produce side effects that are uncomfortable and last for days.

Has Anyone Used Rick Simpson Oil with Their Dogs?

There are stories out there involving Rick Simpson oil and dogs. In some cases, the oil can help minimally, though it is not known to be a treatment method widely accepted throughout the pet parent community.

Also, though the oil did cure Rick Simpson’s cancer, it is not known to cure pet cancers. Some dog parents have had luck with the product, yet others have not. If you are considering using this treatment method, reach out to your veterinarian to get the OK, first.

Is There a Healthy Alternative?

Instead of giving your dog Rick Simpson oil, a product rich in THC, try administering something a little more natural, like CBD.
