Cerenia for Dogs – Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Alternatives

Cerenia for Dogs
Nausea and vomiting are two of the worst symptoms to go through, especially for dogs, considering they can’t tell you how horrible they feel.
Here, we’re going to give you a solution to those upset stomach problems. If you prefer taking a natural route instead, we’ll give you the details on that, too.

What is Cerenia & what can it be used for?

Cerenia is the first medication FDA-approved to help dogs with symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
What’s more is that this medication has the ability to prevent the symptoms from arising in the first place.

Cerenia can be prescribed for a variety of upset stomach instances, with the most popular being motion sickness. Many dogs, in fact, one in five dogs, suffer from motion sickness when traveling in the car. Because of this, dog owners tend to leave their furry friends at home instead of bringing them along for the ride. If your vet were to prescribe Cerenia, there would be no motion sickness problems.

You’ll have to keep an eye on your dog to determine whether he or she is actually nauseous and ready to vomit. Many dogs do a good job of hiding their stomach pain, so you’ll have to monitor his or her reactions. Some of the tell-tale signs that your dog has motion sickness are excessive vomiting, constant drooling, dry heaving, restlessness, and uneasiness.

What is the correct dosage to administer to my dog?

Just like any other medication, Cerenia should be given to your dog via your veterinarian’s guidelines. If you’re using the treatment for motion sickness, be sure to administer it to your dog approximately two hours before traveling. Do not give Cerenia to your dog unless it’s been more than an hour since their last meal, as this may cause an upset stomach.

Are there side effects associated with Cerenia?

We have to warn you, Cerenia comes with common side effects, as does every other medication on the market today. Keep in mind, most dogs take Cerenia with no adverse reactions, but the most common reported side effects are as follows:

  • Lethargy
  • Drowsiness
  • Excessive drooling
  • Lack of appetite
  • Diarrhea

Is there an alternative I can turn to?

There is always at least one alternative you can turn to when you don’t want to administer a prescription medication to your dog. We suggest trying out CBD oil.

CBD oil is naturally produced, 100% organic, and it helps with your dogs overall quality of life.

One fact you’ll want to be aware of is that CBD oil works as a natural anti-inflammatory aid. With that being said, many researchers and veterinarians have concluded that many diseases and ailments are all affected by the symptom inflammation. If CBD oil is administered, the inflammation will be reduced, therefore helping the recovery process for your dog. With motion sickness, CBD oil can calm your dog’s upset stomach, allowing him or her to have a pleasant ride in the car.
