As a pet owner, you probably know that your dog(s) face a lot of health problems throughout their meaningful lives. And, you probably also know that there’s an up and coming treatment plan suggested for many of these problems: CBD oil.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “How do we know if it’s legal to give to our dog(s) when cannabis is still illegal in many parts of the world?” That’s a great question. I’d be skeptical of the new treatment plan, too, especially if that question is lingering in the back of my mind.
However, I’m going to give you facts on CBD oil and how legal it is for your dog(s). Let’s get to learning.
What is CBD Oil? What Can it be Used for?
CBD oil, also known as cannabidiol, is one of many chemicals found in cannabis and hemp plants. Cannabidiol is known to be a non-psychoactive compound, which means it produces absolutely no psychotropic effects on the body and mind. The “high” feeling we typically get after using cannabis-related products is associated with the THC compound, not the CBD compound.
Instead of feeling high, CBD oil allows the body to feel relaxed. Amongst its other health benefits are the following:
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Anti-anxiety properties
- Anticonvulsant
- Pain relieving properties
Science goes even further to prove that CBD oil can help such instances in both humans and animals. Let’s talk about those facts for a moment.
We have in our brain and body something known as cannabinoid receptors. Through these cannabinoid receptors, located in the Endocannabinoid System, is how the CBD oil works its magic.
Let me break it down. The Endocannabinoid System is involved in managing sleep, memory, pain, and more. So, if you or your pet is partaking of CBD oil, the CBD oil will stimulate the Endocannabinoid System, in turn improving some, or all, of these bodily functions. Basically, CBD oil can help both humans and pets with situations such as pain, inflammation, anxiety, stress, sleep, and so on.
So, is CBD Oil Legal for Your Pets?
Though CBD oil was originally extracted from cannabis to help humans with certain health issues, that doesn’t mean it cannot be used on pets.
In recent years, many companies have made CBD products specifically for pets. Though it’s not illegal to use your own CBD on your dog(s), it is not recommended. The CBD products created by companies who cater to animals are better to give to your dog(s). This is because many of these companies include other ingredients in their CBD products that benefit pets, not to mention that the dosage recommendations for your dog will be right on the label.
What’s more is that many of these CBD products put out by specific pet-related CBD companies are legal in many countries, so long as they don’t contain more than 0.3% of THC.
Now that you know it’s legal, you can go on and help your furry family friend by giving them CBD oil to help some of their pain/inflammatory problems!
