Is it OK to Give THC to Our Dogs?

In recent years, people have started to administer CBD oil and products to their dogs for many reasons. The most common reasons are as follows:
- Arthritis
- Allergies
- Patellar Luxation
- Hip Dysplasia
- Elbow Dysplasia
- Anxiety
The list doesn’t stop there, though. You also have to keep in mind that, depending on the breed, depends on what the CBD oil can be used for.
However, before trying CBD oil and/or products for your dog, you’ve probably thought about this singular question:
“Is there any THC in the CBD products?”
This is a valid question to ask, seeing as you’re probably worried whether or not your dog can get high off of such a product. The answer to your question is sometimes.
Is THC in CBD products?
Many brands that make CBD oil and similar products, such as treats, balms, and topical lotions, do have a little bit of THC present in their recipes. What you should keep in mind is that no CBD product can have more than 0.3% THC in it, which is, in turn, a good thing.
Is a little bit of THC OK to give your dog?
Yes, it’s fine to give your dog products that have a little bit of THC in them. That’s all though, just a little bit. For instance, the amount present in CBD products (0.3%) is a perfect amount to give your dog.
Should straight THC ever be given to your dog?
The answer to this question is absolutely not. Think about it this way, have you ever had a straight THC product? If so, you’re probably thinking about the awful side effects of putting plain old THC in your body. If not, you’re probably wondering what it would be like (but trust me when I say, it’s not that fun).
Now, imagine your dog going through that. It would not be a pretty site.
THC and CBD are totally different components, but they both make up the plant product known as marijuana. THC is the product that makes you high. It’s also the product that gets you to do the most ridiculous things. If you’re able to get high off of it, imagine how high your dog would get off of it. On the other hand, the CBD portion of marijuana is the portion that has healing properties and other beneficial aspects. CBD oil will never get you, or your dog high, which is why most of the THC is extracted from marijuana to provide the most beneficial aspects to your dog.
All in all, small amounts of THC are perfectly fine for your pup, but if you’d like to heed my suggestion, I’d say to stick to CBD products with no more than 0.3% THC in them.
Whenever giving your dog CBD oil, be sure to stick to the appropriate dosage requirements. Specifically speaking, keep in mind the ailment and breed of your dog and then don’t forget to factor in the weight of your furry friend.
